The northern goshawk is known as a very secretive, very aggressive, reckless hunter. They will dive headlong into the brush like an osprey into water after small game or other birds. Trained by humans as hunting companions for over 2000 years, they were once known as "cooks birds" because of their ability to provide meat for meals. Atilla the Hun wore the image of a goshawk on his helmet. They are not an easy bird to get close to.
