Scientists are pretty sure that Brokeoff Mountain on the far left used to be connected to Mt. Lassen on the right, and the whole thing formed what they call Mt. Tehama. It would have been a spectacular peak, but the massive eruption that blew it apart sometime in the distant past created a perfect spot for the sun to set for this picture. Shot from the shore of Lake Almanor. The "sunburst" in the photo is not an added "photoshop" creation, it is the result of shooting directly into a partially obscured sun with a very high lens aperature... It turns out the sweet spot for creating a sunburst with this particular lens is at f/16.
A Lassen/Plumas County native of far Northern California based in Susanville, Randy Robbins has a deep appreciation for the beauty of the natural world and the things that live in it. Mostly centered around northeastern California, his work includes wildlife, landscapes, night skies, camera trapping, and general nature and outdoor photography. Photographic achievements include winning the 2019 California Wildlife Photo of the Year Contest, the GoreTex North America "Fear No Weather" contest, the 2021 PSREC Photo Contest, the 2019 California Trout Photo of the Year contest, and "People's Choice" in the 2020 California Trout Photo of the Year Contest.
